Weekly round up, Chocolate, Lean In and Robots.

It of a bumper round up of interesting stories and articles this month. Starting with two stories on women and their careers. Firstly the BBC looking at the impact of Sheryl Sandberg's Lean In movement and side by side a piece from the Financial Time s looking at the EU calling for more women directors. Turning now to food and market behaviour we may have to accept paying more for chocolate or losing it all together - good news for the waistline perhaps but not for the bank balance. Now to consumer stereotypes, the Brits drink tea and Americans drink coffee right? Well apparently not, tea drinking is on the decline in Britain but growing in America. Apparently it's due to a change in work place habits - maybe we need to extra caffeine kick of coffee? The basket of staples used to calculate UK inflation now includes e-cigarettes, craft beer and Spotify. And a blog from Harvard Business Review looking at the impact on our shopping habits of using reusable bags. Apparently they make use feel virtuous and make us more likely to buy organic but also junk food because we have earned it!

Now a cute article about the growing role of robots in manufacturing industries. Finally two more special reports from the Financial Times - one on the Connected Business and one on Risk Management

Exam Stress? Thinking about your Career or a Masters?

Here are some useful and through provoking resources.
Firstly  a remind of ReWise - your one stop call for exam preparation which is running from 16th March to 24th April The LDU will be running a range of workshops and events to help you succeed and approach your exams with calm! Take advantage of this, exams can very stressful. Also next week we will be running 'Here to Help' in the Library@Williams from 18th - 20th March. The librarians will be there along with IT, Achievement Officers, LDU, SLAs and more to highlight the help and support available. There will also be coffee so come alone and meet us all.

Aside from the help available at Middlesex there's also some really useful information about careers and postgraduate study on the Financial Times Website which has a section dedicated to Business Education. It's really interesting including a blog written by MBA students and regular articles on education in business, key issues and development. In addition they have two mental 'gyms' to help students see if they are ready for an MBA or a Master course. Even if you are already on a postgraduate course or not even planning one just yet it would be fun and interesting to see how you measure up. The also have a careers sections which is worth a look. For those of you who are not Post Grads, there also a wonderful tool called the FT.com lexicon under 'Tool's which has definitions of business terms and topics, highlights current issues and news around topics. Check it out!

Have you taken the BAT?

Please contact Sarah Hudson if so -  s.hudson@mdx.ac.uk

Would any student who has taken the Bloomberg Aptitude Test and has been contacted by a potential employer/trainer, please contact Sarah Hudson detailing whether it was a job or internship, an offer or an interview.

It is very difficult to gauge the effectiveness or usefulness of the BAT  as a means of gaining employment or training and as such, Sarah would really appreciate the feedback.
